Highlights

Mayor Edwin M. Lee, San Francisco Board of Supervisors London Breed and Malia Cohen, and representatives from the Golden State Warriors will be congratulating approximately 1,200 SFUSD African-American students who are currently earning a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Board of Education President Dr. Emily Murase, newly-elected San Francisco Board of Education commissioner Shamann Walton, and other district leaders will also be part of honoring students at this annual African-American Honor Roll event.  The family celebration is sponsored by the San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators, a volunteer organization of SFUSD educators.

When:   Wednesday, Feb. 25 / 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Where:  St. Mary's Cathedral / 1111 Gough Street

Every February, Lincoln High students create a “Pink Tsunami” in their classrooms and hallways. Pink hearts, streamers and more will be put up to add to the school’s festive, positive atmosphere. Classes are competing for prizes for the best expression of the theme “creating safe schools.” This international event began with students in Canada, after a male student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

When:   Thursday, Feb. 26 / 9:35-10:30 a.m.

Where:  Lincoln HS / 2162 24th Avenue

A crowd of city officials, community members, parents, and retired teachers will gather at Sunset Elementary for read-aloud day. Fifty volunteers, including Police Chief Greg Suhr, Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, Supervisor Katy Tang, City Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu, Board of Education Commissioners Jill Wynns and Sandra Lee Fewer, SFUSD Superintendent Richard Carranza, and even San Francisco Symphony Resident Conductor Donato Cabrera, will read books such as The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. The event celebrates “Read Across America Day,” a nationwide read-aloud held on March 2, Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

When:    Monday, March 2 / 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
