The Millionth Breakfast & Parents Have a Say - Highlights for April 14-20, 2015

SFUSD’s Student Nutrition Services has been working for years to not only improve school food, but also make sure more kids are getting it. This is particularly true for breakfast, where new programs have made it easier to grab breakfast in the morning, get a second chance to eat at morning recess, and even eat in class. The one-millionth school breakfast will be served at Balboa High this week, and one lucky student will discover a golden ticket. Superintendent Richard Carranza will be on hand to congratulate the winning student and to celebrate SFUSD’s milestone.

When:     Tuesday, April 14 / 6:45-7:00 a.m. (meals packed)
7:00-8:00 a.m. (meals carts delivered to classrooms)
8:00-8:30 a.m. (Carranza arrives, gold ticket discovered, Carranza to make remarks about school breakfasts)
Where:    Balboa HS rear entrance / corner of Otsego and Oneida Streets

SFUSD has a long-standing tradition of partnering with parents at both the school site and district level. With several established ways to gather parent and community input, conversations about the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), a requirement under the state’s Local Control Funding Formula, are underway. This week, SFUSD’s LCAP task force will hold another in its series of public forums called “Our Schools, Our Voices: Mapping the Way to Success,” and small focus groups will meet to discuss the school district’s LCAP and 2015-16 budget.

When:     Thursday, April 16 / 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Where:    1663 Mission Street / Suite 700
