Game on! The annual Game Design challenge is kicking it up a notch this year as students in Marshall High’s Game Design class will be tasked with creating a brand new game for the social video game company Zynga. Winning designs will be prototyped on the spot by game design professionals. These high school students have been learning digital game design in their computer science class headed by a former Zynga game designer. During this week’s challenge they will have only 90 minutes to develop a prototype and pitch their game. Two winning teams will have their game prototyped by a Zynga engineer by the end of the event. This is the third year of SFUSD’s Game Design Academy, a joint venture of Zynga.org and SFUSD, to bring game design and mentorship to SFUSD high school students at Marshall and Balboa. Game Design Academy is one example of how SFUSD high schools expose students to different careers and integrate the development of 21st century pre-professional skills. (View video of a previous Game Design Night.)

When:   Wednesday, October 7 /11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
