Media Advisory: Say Something Week

WHAT

Two parents of children who were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012 will be at Lawton K-8 School to talk with sixth through eighth graders about the important role young people play in looking out for one another to prevent violence and self-harm.

The Sandy Hook Promise organization knows that, when it comes to threats of violence or suicide, most incidences are known by at least one other person before the incident takes place. Tragedies can be avoided when individuals Say Something.

Say Something Week, a program created by Sandy Hook Promise, is an opportunity for students grades 6-12 to learn how to identify warning signs, signals and threats in peers who might be planning to hurt themselves or someone else.

The San Francisco Wellness Initiative partners with SFUSD to  provide wellness centers where students learn how to cope with complex issues such as stress, bullying, depression, etc. in positive ways that contribute to their well-being and success.
