Halloween roundup: characters, idioms and a ‘Thriller’: Highlights for Oct. 27-Nov. 2, 2015

Highlights

At Argonne Elementary, the fourth- and fifth-grade students dress up as idioms and participate in a social mixer where they guess each other’s idiom costume. Not only is it a unique way to celebrate the Halloween dress-up tradition, it helps the school’s English language learners with some of the more quirky English phrases.

When: Friday, Oct. 30 / 9:30-10:15 a.m.

Where:  Argonne ES / 680 18th Ave.

SF Public Montessori has its own annual Halloween tradition, “Historical Halloween.” All students choose a historical person to research, then dress up as that person and present about him or her to their classmates.   This year, the third graders are trying something new, a “Wax Museum.”  SF Board of Education Vice President Matt Haney will join the festivities.

When:   Friday, Oct. 30 / 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Where:  SF Public Montessori / 2340 Jackson St.

Bryant Elementary staff and students will dress as their favorite book character. It’s the final event for the school’s literacy week activities.

When:  Friday, Oct. 30 / 1:15-1:45 p.m.

Where: Bryant ES / 2641 25th St.

And what’s Halloween without that Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ dance? The entire Cleveland Elementary community has been hard at work to learn all the right moves and will put on a big performance.

When:   Friday, Oct. 30 / 2:00-2:30 p.m.

Where:   Cleveland ES / 455 Athens St.
