SFUSD Closures Due to Air Quality

Press Release

San Francisco (November 15, 2018) - San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) schools, central offices and afterschool programs will be closed tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 16, due to ongoing concerns regarding air quality both inside and outside of schools and offices.

Families and staff are being notified of the closures via phone calls, emails and text messages.

“We understand that closing schools places a burden on some of our families. We have given this decision careful consideration,” said Superintendent Dr. Vincent Matthews. “We’ve heard from many staff and families across the City that the indoor air quality has worsened through the week and we want to ensure our staff and students are working and learning in healthy conditions.”

All school sites will be closed for Thanksgiving Break and will reopen on Monday, Nov. 26. Central offices will be open next week Monday, Nov. 19 through Wednesday, Nov. 21. Early education OST and year-round PreK programs will be open Monday, Nov. 19 and Tuesday, Nov. 20 and closed Wednesday, Nov. 21 through Friday Nov. 23.

SFUSD will continue to monitor the air quality index (AQI) for the City and County of San Francisco.
