Soccer Fields & Family Fairs: Highlights for January 5-11, 2016

Highlights

Bret Harte Elementary students will be taking to the field right in their own schoolyard. The newly-installed soccer field, the largest yet for SFUSD schools, is 11,000 square feet. The field was built by America SCORES Bay Area, a program that partners with urban schools to provide a high-quality, team-based soccer program that also integrates poetry and service learning. Funding to build the new field was provided by Major League Soccer and Wells Fargo.

My Brother and Sister’s Keeper San Francisco (MBSK/SF) is hosting the Black Family Cradle to College and Career Day Resource Fair, the second event specifically for all SFUSD black families this school year. It will include an SFUSD Enrollment and Resource Fair where attendees can sign up for school enrollment ahead of the Jan. 15 deadline, enroll in summer camps, apply for jobs and paid internships, plus attend workshops on topics of interest to parents and teens. The fair is one of many events aimed at supporting and retaining San Francisco’s African American residents. MBSK/SF is a partnership between SFUSD’s African American Achievement and Leadership Initiative, the Office of the Mayor, the San Francisco Foundation, and several community-based organizations including the San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators, the Bayview Association for Youth, and Mo’MAGIC.
