An unexpected graduation ceremony & football games for all ages: Highlights for Feb. 3 - 8, 2016

Highlights

Last summer, when the state stopped giving the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), dozens of SFUSD high school seniors were not granted diplomas because they hadn’t passed the exam before testing was ended. SFUSD quickly “went rogue” and issued diplomas to the students. Now that the state law has changed, San Francisco International High will hold a celebration for the approximately 20 students from the classes of 2013, 2014 and 2015 who previously could not graduate.

When:    Thursday, Feb. 4 / 5:00-5:30 p.m.

Where:   San Francisco International High School/ 1050 York St.

Students at Malcolm X Academy will be “getting into the game” with National Football League’s Commissioner Roger Goodell, Super Bowl 50 Host Committee President & CEO Keith Bruce, and several NFL players. The fun starts with football-themed group games led by Playworks, and then the students will receive UNICEF Kid Power Wearable-for-Good bands. The Kid Power bands encourage physical activity with games that will “unlock” food packets for severely malnourished children around the world. Afterward, event attendees will roll up their sleeves to make some improvements, sponsored by Imagination Playground, to the Community Youth Park picnic area (245 West Point Rd., located next to the school).

When:   Thursday, Feb. 4 / 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Where:  Malcolm X ES / 350 Harbor Rd.
