SF Board of Education Selects Three Search Firms to Interview for Superintendent Search

Press Release

San Francisco (October 12, 2021) - The San Francisco Board of Education has reached the next step in its search for a new superintendent for the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). The Board has selected three search firms for consideration and the firms will deliver presentations at an upcoming Board of Education meeting.

Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates; Ray and Associates; and Leadership Associates will each make 15-minute presentations at a virtual Special Meeting of the Board of Education on Oct. 14. Each presentation will be followed by 15 minutes of public comment and 15 minutes for questions and comments from the Board.

SFUSD’s current superintendent, Dr. Vincent Matthews, plans to retire at the end of the 2021-22 school year. A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was issued on Aug. 23 with responses due by Sept. 20. A finalist from the three search firms to be interviewed and one firm will be selected by Oct. 26.

“The Board is committed to transparency, partnering with the public and clearly outlining the process to select the next SFUSD superintendent,” Board of Education President Gabriela López said. “We look forward to selecting a firm and working together over the next several months to hear from our communities about their priorities for SFUSD’s next superintendent.”

The search firm will work with the Board on various phases of the recruitment and hiring process, including recruitment of a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates, reference checking, and the interview process.
