PAC Application Form

PLEASE NOTE: The Application Period for the 2022-23 School Year has been CLOSED. The PAC is currently in the process of interviews applicants.

If you are interested in seeing what it is we do, we encourage you to join us at our meetings for the 2022-23 school year, and to tune into our reports at the first regular Board of Education meeting each month.

Thank you for your interest in and support of the Parent Advisory Council to the SFUSD Board of Education.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Board of Education seeks parents and guardians of public school students from all grade levels (pre-K to 12th grade) and communities to serve on the Parent Advisory Council (PAC). The PAC’s mission is to advise the Board of Education on issues of concern to families of students in our public schools.  PAC members are unpaid volunteers and serve for a two-year term.

The PAC works to:

  • Actively reach out to communicate with families across the city, to understand and represent parent perspectives about school programs, student services, and other district policy issues,
  • Present recommendations to the Board of Education to support academic achievement among all public school children, and
  • Ensure that Board of Education policy decisions are informed by the voices of parents and guardians who reflect the district’s student populations.

Interested in becoming a PAC member?

Eligibility:  To be eligible for the PAC, you must be the parent, guardian, or primary caregiver of a student enrolled in an SFUSD public school, including Early Education pre-kindergarten schools.

Membership Requirements:  Members of the PAC are expected to attend PAC meetings once a month during the school year, to work on a PAC committee, to help represent the PAC by sharing in giving a report at a School Board meeting at least once per year, and to attend/represent the PAC at other events each year.

PAC members are also expected to help organize and conduct community engagement meetings, attend occasional meetings with the Board of Education and/or SFUSD staff, and to participate in parent outreach activities.  PAC members spend approximately six to ten hours per month during the school year on these activities.

Appointing New Members

PAC members are interviewed and selected by current PAC members, and officially appointed by the Board of Education. The PAC does outreach to recruit parents and guardians to apply for open seats on the PAC. We interview all candidates and then adopt a list of candidates to present to the Board as nominations for the open seats. The PAC takes seriously the commitment to reflect and represent the diversity of the SFUSD’s student and family population – across language, ethnicity, socio-economic background, neighborhoods and types of schools in the district. The PAC sometimes leaves seats open to conduct outreach in specific communities that are under-represented among PAC members.

Please email us if you have any questions: pac@sfusd.edu

Note:  The Parent Advisory Council does not take the place of other district advisory groups such as the African American Parent Advisory Council, the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education, the District English Learners Advisory Committee, the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Matua Advisory Council, and the Indian Education and Migrant Education Programs family advisory committees, which advise the SFUSD on specific programs and populations of students.
