Overview

The SFUSD Sustainability Office fosters health and academic achievement, conserves natural and financial resources, and promotes a culture of sustainability and a brighter future for our students.

We are working to eliminate the District’s carbon emissions, increase water resiliency, minimize waste generation, encourage alternatives to the single family car commute, and provide the means for every student to connect with nature every day. Reduce energy usage 50% by 2040. Eliminate combustion of natural gas by 2040. Generate 100% of our own power needs by 2050.

Increase waste diversion from landfill to 85% by 2025. Reduce total waste generation 15% by 2030.

Reduce single-family car trips to less than 30% by 2030. Reduce school-related traffic collisions 50% by 2030.
