Overview
  • Frank McCoppin Elementary School is a multi-award winning, high achieving school in the Inner Richmond District. We have completely implemented the Comprehensive Approach to Literacy. This proven successful educational strategy has been incorporated into other curriculum subjects as well.

We believe equity and social justice are achieved when all students are taught with deep attention to their specific needs. We deliver this individualized approach through our diverse support staff of a speech clinician, a school psychologist, a social worker, and an RSP teacher with para.

The current principal, Bennett Lee, has been at McCoppin for over 15 years. He has the vision, energy, and knowledge to continue to lead and provide all students with the education they deserve. He is devoted to forward thinking and has an open mindset to embrace positive change.

We foster intellectual curiosity and connect with students' interests and daily experiences in a safe, positive, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environment. We provide differentiated instruction to meet student needs. We believe that increasing communication and involvement with students' families will help us succeed in our promises to our students and their families.

McCoppin School has been recently completely renovated and remodeled. We have new classrooms as well as a new multipurpose area with attached offices and a new library. The playground has been resurfaced and expanded, and a community mural is featured on 6th Ave. We make good use of our outdoor classroom, and are working on other greening projects for the school. We invite you to come take a look and be impressed!

Programs
  • Before School Programs

The Early Morning Care program at Frank McCoppin Elementary School is administered by the Richmond District Neighborhood Center (TRNC), daily from 7:30 AM - 9:15 AM. TRNC offers arts and crafts and games within a supervised classroom! Application forms and payment CANNOT be accepted at the school. Please register via the TRNC website. You can find more information and apply here: https://richmondsf.org/youth/elementary/mccoppin/
  • After School Programs

A couple of years ago the PTO conducted a parent survey to get a better understanding of what families want in after school programming, and the response was a desire for increased flexibility and expanded enrichment. As a result, McCoppin applied for and was awarded a 5-year grant from the City and County of San Francisco's Department of Children, Youth & Their Families (DCYF) through the Richmond District Neighborhood Center (TRNC) to provide additional after school programming. This program is running alongside the existing OST program (which is federally funded by Title 5). The PTO is committed to fostering a community that embraces diversity, equity, and learning. We want families to make informed decisions that best meet their needs. We hope this provides some clarification: Out of School Time Program (OST) Full time, must attend 5 days / week due to funding requirements.
