Language Pathway Options TK-12
Review the language pathway options below to find a program that fits for your student.
1. Dual Language for all learners in T-Kindergarten-8th Grade
All students can apply (English Proficient Students, English Learners, Bilingual Students). Classes are taught in Cantonese, Spanish, Korean or Mandarin 70-80% in Kindergarten, decreasing to 50% in later grades
2. Biliteracy (K-5) for Spanish and Cantonese speakers
For Spanish and Cantonese speakers only. Similar to Dual Language, but designed for English learners who are native speakers of Cantonese or Spanish. Classes are taught in Cantonese or Spanish 70-80% in K, decreasing to 50% in later grades.
3. Secondary (9-12 Grade) Dual Language Pathways
STUDENTS SERVED: English Learners, Bilingual students, English proficient students. LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION: Dual Language Instruction and Biliteracy merge starting in middle school and students take 2 academic courses in the pathway language.
4. Newcomer / English Learner
STUDENTS SERVED: English Learners. LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION: Instruction in the native language with 60 minutes of Designated ELD. PATHWAY ELIGIBILITY: Newly arrived to the US (Emerging Level).
