Message From the Principal

At Bessie we value Family Partnerships and believe that they are fundamentally important to transforming outcomes for our students.  You are your child’s first and most important teacher. Next week we will be holding our Back to School Night and hope that you are able to attend!  Back to School Night is an opportunity for us to build a stronger connection between our school and families - we know it “takes a village” and really want to be a part of your child’s village.  We are excited for back to school night to be a positive experience and hope that you leave knowing that you and your child are supported and loved at Bessie!

In Community,

Ms. Bell

NEED TO KNOW

IMPORTANT FORMS

During the first week of school, important forms went home in your child’s yellow folder.  These forms included an Emergency Card, Media Release Form, Transportation Form, Victoria Manola Park Release Form, and the YBCA Form. These forms are essential and we ask that you return them completed as soon as possible to your child’s teacher. They can be returned by placing them back in the yellow folder.  If you are missing or lost any of the forms please let your child’s teacher know or stop by the main office for a new copy.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

Join us for Back to School Night on Thursday September 7, 2023, starting at 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Back to School Night meetings will take place at both campuses - please attend the campus in which your student is enrolled.

CELL PHONE POLICY

Our school wide cell phone policy is off and away at all times - this includes accepting calls from their guardian.  If your child is seen with their cell phone out, they will be given a gentle reminder and asked to put it away.  If their phone is seen out a second time it will be confiscated and can be picked up in the main office at the end of the day.  If this occurs twice, your child will be required to check their phone in and out of the office daily for one week.  If this occurs three times your child will be required to check their phone in and out of the office for the remainder of the semester. If you need to contact your child for any important communication, please call the office (numbers listed at top of the newsletter) or send them a text that can be checked at dismissal or another appropriate time.  We believe that school is your child’s professional setting and ask for your support with this.

AAPAC will be hosting a meeting on September 15, 2023 at 4:00pm in the Little Bessie Library. For more details, please contact Ms. Cassandra Minor at cminor@missiongraduates.org. Click here for flier

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF SF TENDERLOIN

Our middle and elementary programs have some age-specific programming but all of our age groups participate in daily activities such as our homework, "Power Hour". During this time, any youth who may need assistance with homework will receive either help from our staff or one of our tutoring partners. There is a daily, healthy snack that is provided by the clubhouse. We also provide physical activities: partnering with Street Soccer for middle school and weekly, if not daily, park trips. On Friday evenings, we stay open later, up to 8:00 in some cases, for "teen night". Middle school often gets supervised gym or park time with one of our community partners, have an open games room time in our clubhouse or may go on a field trip. Once a month, middle school and high school combine for teen night.
