Letter from Principal Tyson Fechter to MLK Community

Dear Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School Community,

It’s with a full heart and deep appreciation that I share the news that I will be stepping away from my role as principal at MLK at the end of this school year. Next year, I will begin a new chapter in a new school community, and while I’m excited for the opportunity ahead, this transition is bittersweet.

MLK is a special school, and serving as your principal has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. From the very beginning, I have been inspired by the dedication of our teachers and staff, the curiosity and spirit of our students, and the partnership and trust of our families. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated achievements, and created a school culture grounded in love.

I am so proud of all that we’ve accomplished during our time together- not just in improved outcomes for our students, but in the day-to-day moments that define a school: the conversations, the laughter, the learning, and the growth together.

Transitions bring emotion, and this is a very hard letter to write. Please know that this decision was made with great thought and care. I truly believe that MLK is in a strong place, with a remarkable team that will continue to support and lead the community forward.

Over the remaining weeks of school, I will continue to give my best each day and work closely with our leadership to ensure a smooth transition. I look forward to celebrating the end of the year with all of you and taking time to say goodbye- not as a final farewell, but as a thank-you for being such an important part of my journey.

Estimada Comunidad de la Escuela Secundaria Académica Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

Con gran afecto y profundo agradecimiento comparto la noticia de que dejaré mi puesto como Director de MLK al final de este año escolar. El próximo año, comenzaré una nueva etapa en una nueva comunidad escolar, y si bien estoy entusiasmada por la oportunidad que me espera, esta transición es agridulce.

MLK es una escuela especial, y ser directora ha sido uno de los mayores honores en mi vida profesional. Desde el principio, me he sentido inspirado por la dedicación de nuestros maestros y personal, la curiosidad y el espíritu de nuestros estudiantes, y la colaboración y confianza de nuestras familias. Juntos, hemos enfrentado desafíos, celebrado logros y creado una cultura escolar basada en el amor.

Estoy muy orgullosa de todo lo que hemos logrado durante este tiempo juntos, no solo en la mejora de los resultados de nuestros estudiantes, sino también en los momentos cotidianos que definen a una escuela: las conversaciones, las risas, el aprendizaje y el crecimiento conjunto.

Las transiciones traen consigo emociones, y esta es una carta muy difícil de escribir. Sepan que esta decisión se tomó con gran consideración y cuidado. Creo firmemente que MLK se encuentra en una posición sólida, con un equipo extraordinario que seguirá apoyando y liderando a la comunidad hacia el futuro.

Durante las semanas que quedan de clases, seguiré dando lo mejor de mí cada día y colaboraré estrechamente con nuestros líderes para garantizar una transición fluida. Espero celebrar el fin de año con todos ustedes y tomarme un tiempo para despedirme, no como una despedida final, sino como un agradecimiento por ser una parte tan importante en mi trayectoria.
