How does my child get an iPad?

To receive a VILS iPad , a Francisco Middle School student will need to have a Parent Agreement for Device Deployment form filled out. Please note that to fully fill this form out the parent will need to have the following information:

  • Parent Email
  • Student District issued Email (this can be acquired in ParentVue)
  • Student District issued ID # (this can be acquired in ParentVue)

Once the form has been filled out your child will receive their VILS iPad at Francisco Middle School.

Can I customize my iPad?

You may customize the look and feel of your iPad. SFUSD monitors and manages your iPad. Save all personal photos and files to your Google Drive (or other external device) to ensure ongoing access in case your iPad is lost, remotely wiped by SFUSD, etc.

What if I need an app that my teacher is using?

You can find all district approved apps within the Self-Service app. 
Go to Self-Service  to install additional apps.

It is recommended that you install all of the  Google Suite apps (Classroom, Docs, Slides, etc.) as well as Zoom to get started.

 

What network should I connect my iPad to?

You should connect your iPad to the Verizon Network cellular data plan whenever possible.  If the connection is slow, or you've run out of data,  connect to the internet using WiFi.  Note that you have limited data on the network.

 

How much data do I have?

You have 30GB each month to use.  This should be plenty for your learning needs.  You will likely run out of data if you use it for entertainment, such as streaming video, gaming, and for social media use. UNUSED DATA DOES NOT ROLLOVER TO THE NEXT MONTH.  

What happens when I run out of data?

Your data resets on the 28th of each month. This is why it is important for you to set your iPad to connect to your WiFi. If you run out of data and do not have WiFi, your internet connection will become VERY slow. Videos and photos will take a very long time to access or become unavailable.

What do I do if my device gets damaged?

Notify the school right away by sending an email to fms_tech_support@sfusd.edu.  Mr. Kramer will reach out to you regarding next steps.
