Dear Lowell Families:
Given current guidance from health experts and what we know at this time, we are reopening Lowell on Wednesday, March 11. Students should report to school at 9:10 AM to your Registry Class. If you are sick, please stay home and seek medical help as needed. If a child stays home from school due to health concerns, SFUSD will consider it an excused absence.
Per new guidance from the City of San Francisco, all non-essential events at all SFUSD schools -- including Lowell -- are cancelled effective March 9, 2020 until March 22, 2020.
District leaders have been carefully monitoring the COVID-19 situation in San Francisco and working closely with City agencies. We have done enhanced cleaning at Lowell High School to ensure the campus is clean when it reopens.
Please focus on taking universal precautions including staying home if you are sick. In addition to following all of the procedures to prevent the spread of germs, including hand washing, hand sanitizer has been distributed and will be widely available for you to use.
While a parent of a Lowell High School student is being treated for COVID-19, no Lowell student has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The student whose parent is being treated has been tested for COVID-19 and received a negative diagnosis. They have not had any symptoms and are in self quarantine. We are in constant contact with the Department of Public Health and are monitoring the situation with the student whose parent is ill. It is our legal obligation and our commitment to respect the privacy of the student and their family.
Some people are wondering if they may have come in contact with the student whose parent is ill. The Department of Public Health investigates when there is a confirmed case, and will notify any individuals who should be concerned.
The decision to dismiss early on Thursday, March 5 and remain closed through Tuesday, March 10 was made in an abundance of caution while we continued to gather information. We know this was a conservative decision and we appreciate your patience and understanding through this disruption.
Our school staff and students will continue to discuss ways we can stay healthy and prevent the spread of germs. If you are sick, please stay home and seek medical help as needed. If a child stays home from school due to health concerns, SFUSD will consider it an excused absence. If you have any personal health questions, please consult with a medical professional. If you have any school-health related questions, please call the SFUSD Nurse of the Day at (415) 242-2615.
