Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I hope you have been well! It's been a long time since I have written.

It has been a busy, busy few weeks. I hope your child shared all the news with you!

From mid March to the end of April we had our annual Reading Challenge. I challenged the entire MEC community to read 50,000 pages. Well,we ended up reading almost 90,000 pages!!!!! Wow! I am so excited by their motivation to read during the challenge. I hope this continues and has become habitual. We know the best way to improve in reading is by reading. As a prize, students received an extra 20 minutes of recess last Wednesday and they will receive a book for their home libraries.

This last full month of school will be very busy. Students will be finishing up units in Math and Reading. We are planning a fun and joyous end of the school year celebration on Friday,May 27. We'll send details as soon as everything is planned.

This is the time of year when students begin to become very excited due to end of year activities and the closing of school. Please spend a little time with your child daily talking about the school expectations: Be Responsible,Be Respectful,Be Safe and Be Kind. Ask them what they can do to show they are following the school expectations. I often ask students something like,"How did you show respect to others at school?"

Enjoy your week!

Carla Vasquez, Principal
