The Winter Ball is Friday, December 3rd. I’ve attached the flyer to this email. Dress code is casual, there will be snacks, tickets will be on sale at lunch through the 3rd.
When we return there will be only three weeks until the end of the semester. We have seen a sharp decrease in the percentage of students earning Ds and Fs in their classes, which is great. Let’s finish the semester strong. If your student is behind in their classes, encourage them to use the holiday week to get caught up.

Hello Wallenberg families!!!
We have an attendance clerk!! Join us in welcoming Jessica Thompson. She started this week and we are so happy to have her on the team. Jessica’s extension is 80322 and her email is thompsonj2@sfusd.edu. Please contact her with absences or any attendance-related issues.
There was a student walk-out today. They held a rally in support of vicitms of sexual assault and sexual harassment. Many students shared their experiences. We are following up directly with the families of students who appeared to be triggered by the event, but please take a moment to check in with your student this weekend and make sure they are doing okay. We want to keep everyone safe. The administration is aware of the instagram accounts that are posting stories of SA/SH- we are working to help students to understand that we cannot act on anonymous social media reports, they need to come and speak to an adult. We can help, but only when we know about an incident. I sent reporting instructions to families, students and staff this week.
There are about 50 students who haven’t had their school pictures taken yet. Lifetouch is coming back on Wednesday November 17 for one more retake day. Students will be sent passes in the morning to come and be photographed.
Remember that our school homepage has lots of resources about what’s available and happening at Wallenberg. We do our best to keep is updated regularly: https://www.sfusd.edu/school/raoul-wallenberg-high-school

October 29th
Hello Wallenberg families!!!
We have seen an increase in students focused on their phones and not on their classes. Next week we will be relaunching appropriate electronics use policy at school in hopes of engaging all students in their classes.
Here are the rules regarding cell phone use at school:
- Cell phones are to be in a student's pocket or backpack once class begins. Teachers will remind students of this at the start of class.
- If a student has their phone out during class, a teacher will take it for the remainder of class time.
- If a student refuses to give their phone to their teacher, they will be escorted to the office and an administrator will make a call home.
- Repeated inappropriate use of cell phones may result in additional consequences or interventions.
If you need to reach your student during school hours, please call the main office at (415) 749-3469. We will either pass on a message or connect you to them directly.
Thank you for supporting these efforts and for being an integral part of your student's academic achievement. Feel free to reach out with any questions about Wallenberg's cell phone expectations.

October 22nd
Hello Wallenberg families!!!
Monday October 25th is school picture makeup day. If your student didn’t have their photo taken in September, they can on Monday.
We have seen an increase in students not wearing their masks properly in classes and in the halls. We have not had any defiance or refusal to wear masks, but there has been an increase in reminders to students to cover their noses in particular. Please take some time to reinforce with your student the importance of proper mask wearing.
Please don’t send your student to school when they’re sick. If your student answers “yes” to any of the screening questions, please keep them home and call the school 415-749-3469. The screening questions are on our homepage https://www.sfusd.edu/school/raoul-wallenberg-high-school. Wallenberg has still had no positive cases on campus.
Next week is spirit week- Each day will have a different theme. School-appropriate outfits only.
Monday - Pajama Day
Tuesday - Color War (Freshmen will wear White, Sophomores wear Red, Juniors wear Black, Seniors wear Blue, and Teachers wear Green)
Wednesday - Break Gender Norms (wear something of the opposite or different gender than the one you identify with)
Thursday - Throwback Thursday (dress from a past decade)
Friday - Halloween Costume (make sure it is school appropriate and no full face covering)
We have added information about attendance reporting to the homepage: https://www.sfusd.edu/school/raoul-wallenberg-high-school/students/attendance
SFUSD is eligible to receive federal funding through the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) to maintain and expand student access to technology. The District will use this funding to purchase additional student technology to help close the “Homework Gap” for students who currently lack Internet access or the devices they need to connect to classrooms.
To receive this funding and to determine unmet needs, SFUSD needs families/guardians to answer a two-question survey. This survey will certify that their student(s) has or needs an SFUSD Chromebook or Hotspot in order to complete assignments and school work from home.
Parents/Guardians can access the survey, starting October 20, 2021, by logging into their ParentVUE Account. If you need help with parentvue activation, please contact Sasha Zaldivar 415-749-3469 ext 80259
Families can get free, personalized support for using ParentVUE, Zoom, Seesaw, Chromebooks, Google Suite, Google Meet and Classroom, filling out the MFIF (Multipurpose Family Income Form), and more! Visit bit.ly/sftechtutors to sign up for a 30 minute appointment with an SF Ed Fund volunteer.

We need two new people to step up and be a part of our team! If you are interested in a position on our ELAC or would like more information, reach out to the school and leave your name and number! Or email sicairosj@sfusd.edu in your language of choice.

August 20th
Hello Wallenberg families!!!
It has been a great first week back- we are so happy to have students back on campus. Things have been surprisingly “normal” which is nice. Students have done a great job of following COVID protocols. There have been a few cases of masks not worn properly, but students are listening when reminded. If your student is struggling to find a mask that fits right, have them check in to the main office, we have a lot of different types of masks here.
Please make sure your student is answering the screening questions every morning before coming to school. If they answer YES to ANY of the questions, they need to stay home. Call us: 415-749-3469 to excuse their absence. https://www.sfusd.edu/school/raoul-wallenberg-high-school
If your student does not have a locker assigned to them and they would like one, they need to complete this survey: https://forms.gle/zqt5Hkdon6VjYfpG6 Once their locker has been assigned, their homeroom teacher will give them the information. I have emailed the survey to all students as well. The survey has to be completed by students logged into their district email account. If your student has a locker assigned but does not remember the combination, their homeroom teacher has that information.
SFUSD has issued air quality guidance for days with poor air quality. That guidance is available here: https://www.sfusd.edu/announcements/2021-08-19-updated-air-quality-guidance
If your student has a chromebook or hotspot that is signed out to them, they should keep that for now. This will let them access current school work and be ready in the event that we have to close school again for air quality issues.
This Monday, August 23, we will have an alternate schedule- it is below. We will use the extended homeroom time to work on community building.

August 13th
Hello Wallenberg families!!!
This week teachers returned to school. They have been working hard this week to prepare for students returning to campus. We are so happy to have your kids back!!!
I want to thank everyone who came out last night for our family meeting. There were technical issues with recording the meeting, but here is a link to the slides. Wallenberg Family Meeting Slides
Monday, August 16th is the first day of school. The day starts for all students at 8:40am, and will end at 3:50 pm. Students can enter the building through the main entrance at 40 Vega Street, or the back entrance on O’Farrell. The O’Farrell doors will be locked every day at 8:45.
All students must wear masks at all times when in the building. Masks must fit over the nose and mouth. No bandannas or masks with exhalation valves are permitted. We will have additional masks for students who need them.
There was a technical issue with student schedules this week. The schedules you saw on ParentVue and StudentVue were not final schedules. The counseling team is still working on getting schedules complete. They will be available by Monday morning at the latest.
If there are issues with student schedules on Monday, students will be able to sign up to meet with their counselors. We expect to have all scheduling issues solved by August 27. This is a normal part of the start of the school year, and all teachers know there will be changes.
In case you student has forgotten how to get to StudentVue: https://portal.sfusd.edu/PXP2_Login_Student.aspx?regenerateSessionId=True (use their sfusd google login for this)
If you need to set up your ParentVue account check out the ParentVue page of our website.
If a student needs a printed schedule on Monday, they can go to the library or the counseling office.
Please remember to visit our website for detailed information about the school and staff. There is also an archive of past newsletters if you missed something.
If you have any questions, please email me, we will find the answers. You can email in your preferred language as well. We will find translation and answers.

Hello! There isn’t much new to report since last Friday. If you missed last week’s newsletter, they are all archived on our website: principal's newsletters. It was great to see the 11th and 12th graders who came for orientation today. We are so excited to have students back on campus.
On Monday we will hold in-person orientations for 9th and 10th grades. Students will tour the campus, spend some time getting to know their peers and staff, and play some silly games. This is a students-only event. Family meeting information is below.

Hello Bulldog students and families!! Welcome to the 2021-22 school year. We are all so excited to have you back on campus in-person. Staff is returning to work over the next few weeks and we will be meeting and preparing for your return. This year our focus is on Community and Coherence. We will be spending a lot of time at the start of the year, and throughout, building a strong school community. We will also work to make sure every student at Wallenberg has the opportunity to be successful academically.
This letter is focused only on the first few days of school. I will send a newsletter every Friday with current information about school events. Please also visit our website to see our calendar of events and any other updates. https://www.sfusd.edu/school/raoul-wallenberg-high-school
School will start normally on August 16th. all students and staff will be required to wear masks throughout the school day. Masks must cover the mouth and nose at all times and must not have an exhalation valve. All classrooms will also have windows open, as long as air quality permits. Please encourage your student to dress in layers. Please see this page for all COVID-19-related information from SFUSD: https://www.sfusd.edu/covid-19-response-updates-and-resources
While the school building was closed we had three water bottle-filling stations installed. Please bring your reusable water bottles with you to school to stay hydrated :)

Students will be able to access their class schedules in StudentVue on the morning of August 16th. They MAY be available sooner, but that is something that we have no control over. Families will also be able to see the schedule in ParentVue. Please sign up for ParentVue here:
https://www.sfusd.edu/services/family-supports-services/family-school-communications/family-portal-parentvue If there are any issues with schedules, the counseling team will work with students during the first days of school to fix them. Our counseling team divides students by last name.
