Plans for Fall Semester Learning

Considerations for Fall 2020

Last updated June 1, 2020

This is an unprecedented time and there are many factors to consider as we plan for fall semester learning to begin on August 17th. District leaders are in the midst of developing plans in partnership with local public health officials, and with feedback opportunities for our educators, families, labor unions, and others.

As we develop reopening plans, we are using the best guidance available from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), along with several other evidence-based sources of guidance. This CDC school reopening flowchart poses some of the questions we will be asking ourselves and the actions we will seek to take.

We know that SFUSD’s decisions about how we reopen schools have a big impact on all of our students, families, and staff. We will continue to seek your input and communicate with you throughout the summer. As decisions are made, we will let you know. In addition to communicating with you by email, text and phone (as seem appropriate), we will keep our website updated with the latest information, including these pages:

  • Fall Learning Frequently Asked Questions
  • Wednesday Family Digests (weekly posts with the same content as our weekly emails; includes information on how to ensure you are receiving communication from SFUSD if you are not getting our emails or calls)
  • Wednesday Staff Digests (weekly posts with the same content as our weekly emails)
