Summer Opportunities for Kids with Disabilities

Check out these summer options for students with disabilities:

SSUSA'S SUMMER 2021 STREET LEAGUE & Skill Building Programs will run from JULY 10TH TO AUGUST 22ND! 

What: 7 Weekends of SSUSA programming w/ practices AND game days! PLUS all day access to open schoolyards with SSUSA Staff helping to create a safe place to soak up the sun with your families. Please note SSUSA will ONLY be responsible for the care of your child during the designated SSUSA programming. While programs are not in session the schoolyard acts as a public space for YOU to take your family and enjoy the outdoors!

When: July 19th - August 22nd

Where: SFUSD Schoolyards / SF Rec & Park locations below 

4 Program Locations for Elementary School Youth (12 youth per program)

  • Malcolm X Elementary (Excelsior Street League) 
  • Alvarado Elementary (Mission Street League)

Summer Together - This program is a collaboration with SFUSD, DCYF, SF Public Library, SF Rec & Park and many other groups. Check out these Featured Private Camps serving kids with disabilities

SFUSD Summer Programs - SFUSD will be offering several summer opportunities to extend learning time during the summer months.  Programs offered through SFUSD include both academic and enrichment programs, focusing on our youngest learners through year-round PreK programming, Extended School Year and COVID Recovery Services for students with IEPs, Credit Recovery options for our high school students and many more programs. 

  • Extended School Year - is an extension of existing Individual Education Program (IEP) services during the summer recess to assist a student in maintaining skills on goals and objectives from their current IEP.  The primary goal of ESY is to limit regression of skills gained during the school year.   • Covid Recovery Services - address potential learning loss due to the impact of COVID-19 related disruptions on a student's Individual Education needs.  For students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) in grades K-12+, COVID Recovery Services are being offered either in person or virtual with a focus on providing intensive services in reading, writing, and math. Support for Families Access to Adventure - Join Support for Families online for a month-long celebration of Access to Adventure. Each weekend different community partners will host free activities for you and your family!

Pomeroy Summer Respite programs Registration for the Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center’s Summer Respite Camp is OPEN! Open Registration period runs through June 12th. Families will be notified if they received a space in camp by June 26th.

Mission Bit Summer 2021 Bootcamp! Any San Francisco or Oakland high school student in the 8th to the 12th-grade is eligible to apply and our application deadline is May 23, 2021.

Our programs are always free, and students do not need any coding experience or their own laptop to participate; we will be lending our laptops for the duration of the course. The flyer with the full course descriptions is attached.

Please join us on August 5, 2021, to learn about California’s special education funding from Heather Calomese, California's Special Education Director and Stacey Wedin, Education Administrator.

Heather and Stacey will help families of students with disabilities understand how California’s special education funding – including new federal and state funds – are intended to be spent, and how we can be involved in and reimagine how schools use the funds!
