    At Bessie Carmichael we strive to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment where students are motivated to come to school knowing they will have many opportunities to participate and develop their intellect, health, emotional, and social well-being. We encourage students to take risks and have the desire to exceed expectations. It is our aim to ensure that every student becomes a well-rounded learner, ready to face the challenges of the new century.

    Teachers at Bessie Carmichael encourage students to think critically and apply their knowledge to the world around them. We have instituted fun curricular events such as Wind-Up Wednesday aimed to get everyone physically active and fit, and Fun Friday meant to celebrate physical fitness and good behavior. We partner middle school teachers and staff with students to help build and foster stronger, more personalized relationships among staff and students. We value the diversity of our school community through celebrations such as the Multicultural Day, Latino Heritage Day, United Nations Day, and Black History Month. These events provide opportunities for our communities to learn from the richness of each other's cultural backgrounds. Bessie Carmichael School continues to pursue efforts to improve the home-school partnership by offering opportunities to get parents more involved and engaged in the education of their children.

    Opportunities for Parental Involvement

    At Bessie Carmichael / FEC, we strongly believe in the home-school partnership to provide our students optimal learning opportunities within and beyond the four corners of our campuses. We strongly encourage parents and guardians to be actively involved in the education of their children. The Parent-Teacher Association and the School Site Council are opportunities for parents to be an integral component in schoolwide improvement efforts. We always welcome parent/guardian volunteers who help us in a spectrum of ways. Many of our volunteers assist us on field trips, participation in enrichment activities, yard supervision. For information on how to be actively involved at school, do call or stop by the school to speak to parents assisting us on a regular basis.
