Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Our TK program is designed to bridge the preschool learning environment with that of the traditional kindergarten classroom. It is taught by multiple subject-credentialed teachers who blend preschool and kindergarten instructional practices in order to meet the individual needs of each child. The instructional day is from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Out-of-school-time care is available from 7:30 to 8:30 AM and from 2:30 to 5:30 PM. Find out more about TK and TK enrollment.

Leola M. Havard Early Education School (formerly the Burnett Child Development Center) in the Bayview district changed names in 2011 to honor the first African-American female school principal in SFUSD.

We believe that family are a child's first and best teachers, and our goal is to support the family and community in an atmosphere of trust.

We honor and celebrate where children are today and seek opportunities to enhance their creative expression in the arts and to support their cognitive development through language and culture enrichment. We value a rich, diverse tapestry of cultures whose common purpose is to enrich the next generation of learners. By respecting the individual rights of all children, we as educators can best help them reach the next level of their development.

School Tours

Our School Tours are held on Wednesdays.  Please see our School Tour Calendar for the current schedule and call our office to arrange a tour time. (415) 695-5660.

Before-school programs

Our before-school program accommodates students from 7:30 AM until their school buses transport them to their elementary schools.

Afterschool programs

The SFUSD Early Education Department administers the Out Of School Time (OST) program at several SFUSD sites.

These enrichment classes are held after school hours with full day sessions available during Spring and Summer breaks.

OST classes are open to students from any elementary school as long as they meet the age requirements.

Qualifying families may take advantage of subsidized tuition depending on family size and gross income.

Please contact the OST Secretary at the school site you would like to apply to for more information.  OST Brochure
