Our school provides a nurturing and educational program that embraces children's interests as the starting point to engage in an in-depth study through writing, reading, drawing, painting, music, sculpting, and dancing. Las Americas supports children's interests and curiosity by listening, observing, and documenting their ideas and feelings through stories, photographs, dictation, and drawings.
Our programs provide an environment-based curriculum using our school garden as a connection between nature, outdoor learning and academic success. We believe that by working and playing in small groups, children are better able to explore and understand concepts of literacy, math, nature, and the creative arts. Besides ensuring the safety of the children and their social-emotional well-being, another equally important role of teachers is to reflect on the children's learning experiences in order to improve our own teaching practices.
Las Americas supports the family as an integral part of the professional community and respects parents as their children's first and best teachers.
The SFUSD Early Education Department administers the Out Of School Time (OST) program at several SFUSD sites.
These enrichment classes are held after school hours with full day sessions available during Spring and Summer breaks.
OST classes are open to students from any elementary school as long as they meet the age requirements.
Qualifying families may take advantage of subsidized tuition depending on family size and gross income.
Please contact the OST Secretary at the school site you would like to apply to for more information. OST Brochure
