We commit ourselves to ensuring that all students, regardless of their ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, or ability level, will enjoy an equal opportunity to succeed in school. To promote student achievement, we focus on joyful teachers, a joyful environment, a joyful (21st Century learning) curriculum, and joyful families. At Sutro, we believe that a safe, secure school environment, collaboration, and cooperation all enhance the learning experience for each of our students. Afterschool opportunities include homework club, piano, and choir classes.
We promise our students an optimal learning environment that includes leadership opportunities, healthy community practices and a better understanding of the world around them. We have enthusiastic parents and family support. Using shared decision-making, our entire school community unites to provide an educational program committed to excellence emphasizing language arts, visual and performing arts, math, science, and technology. At our school, each and every student receives individual attention from a community of caring adults. We address not only academic, but also social and emotional needs. Opportunities for Parental Involvement
Parent-Family leadership is fostered through our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC) and English Language Acquisition Committee (ELAC). The PTA organizes schoolwide events to support our instructional program, i.e. Book Fair, Fall Festival, "Especially Made for You" workshops, Lunar New Year Teahouse, Celebration of Cultures, etc. Our SSC/ELAC committees oversee the implementation of our Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and School Budget. Our parent-family members also volunteer in classrooms, the library and computer lab; assist on field trips; and serve as guest speakers in career awareness. In collaboration with Sutro Child Development Center workshops on parenting skills are held for our families.
