Message From the Principal
Dear families,
I can’t believe we are already closing out January! Time is moving quickly, and as we step into the rest of the school year, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the times we are living in. There is uncertainty in our nation for many right now, and I know that many in our community may be feeling the weight of it.
Through it all, please know that Bessie Carmichael remains a place of strength, unity, and love. As a school in a sanctuary city, we are committed to being a safe space for all, no matter immigration status or background. Every child, every family—everyone—belongs here. Please find additional resources below.
Thank you for your continued partnership and trust in us. Together, we will remain strong, united, and focused on the success and well-being of our students.
In Community,
Ms. Bell

Fun facts: I love to travel, I’m a father, I love to play sports, I love to read, I love all culturals, and besides English I speak Spanish, and other languages. Come by and say Hi, I will be in the Parent Room at Little Bessie. Hope to meet you all soon.
NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK
"School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans," will be celebrated from Feb. 3-7, 2020, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. Please reach out and recognize your school counselors and counseling interns for all the work they do!! Some suggestions on how to acknowledge and appreciate your counseling team include give appreciation not in mailboxes, shout-out in overhead announcements, balloons and appreciation sign at counseling office, cover office, so that the team can take a lunch break together, have students/teachers write thank you notes in classroom, collect and deliver to counselors.
SCHOOL PLANNING PROCESS
We are entering our school planning process where we engage in getting feedback from families, students, staff, and community members to inform our decisions for next year. Please be on the lookout for information about how to ensure your voice is heard! We will be sending out a community hopes and needs assessment on 2/7th.
CELL PHONE POLICY
As a reminder at Bessie we follow the district's Cell Phone Policy, Off and Away from the Morning Bell through Dismissal. Please support us with this by not communicating with your child via text/phone calls during the school day. We have seen an increase in cell phone usage during the school day - even with some of our youngest scholars. This has resulted in several distractions and impacts their ability to stay engaged throughout the day. Please remind your child to keep their cell phone away in their backpacks for the entire day. If a student is seen with a cell phone out it will be confiscated.
