Welcome to the 2021-22 school year at ER Taylor Elementary!  Whether this is your family’s first experience at our school, or you are a returning family, this return is special, because we are all coming back to in-person learning.  With that being said, we know you may have many questions coupled with lots of excitement.  We are so excited as well to welcome you back, and will do our best to share all of the important information you will need to know, to have a safe and successful experience for your student.

This year, our focus is going to be on creating strong partnerships with our students and families.  We know that we will have to work very closely together to support your students’ growth this year, socially, emotionally, and academically.  We also know that due to extended distance learning last year, your students need to be challenged and pushed academically, so they can achieve to their fullest potential.  We want you to know that we are ready to make this happen, and it starts by building stronger relationships and partnerships with all of you!

Our return to in-person learning is also marked by some significant changes from last year that you need to be aware of.  We first want to remind you that school starts at 7:50 AM this year, and dismissal is at 2:05 PM, except on our Wednesday, early release days, in which students dismiss at 12:50.   Due to our earlier start time, our on-site After School Program run by Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) will be offering 4 hours of programming this year.  We are very happy to share that if you are a family that participates in our on-site after school program, pick up time won’t change from previous years.

Another change from last spring is, we will not be conducting student health screenings when they enter our campus every morning.  It is imperative that all families do their own health screening every morning, because if a student exhibits symptoms related to COVID 19, they will not be allowed inside the school.  Also, just like last spring, families will continue to NOT be allowed into our school building, as an ongoing safety precaution.  Masks must also be worn on our campus by ALL adults and children. To learn more about the SFUSD Health and Safety Guidelines that we are following, please visit the San Francisco Unified School District website: https://www.sfusd.edu/covid-19-response-updates-and-resources/health-and-safety-guidelines

Finally, we are very excited to announce that we are in the process of getting a new play structure on our upper playground!  Construction is currently underway, and even though the structure won’t be finished by the first day of school, it will be ready for use by early September!

These are just a few of the changes in store for us this school year.  We have more information to share with you, so we hope you can make it to our family Back to School Zoom Meeting, on the evening of Thursday, August 12th.  This will be a town hall style meeting, where we will share more detailed information and take questions.   We have also shared some Frequently Asked Questions below, with answers from our school district.   We will follow up with a specific time and Zoom Link for our Family Town Hall Meeting early next week.

Thanks again for your partnership, and we can’t wait to see you on the first day of school, Monday, August 16th!!

In the spirit of community,

David Norris, Principal

Jimmy Lopez, Assistant Principal
