Our Mission & Vision
Mission
As county schools, the mission of our coordinated campus—comprising Hilltop, El Camino Alternativo, and Caminito—is to provide a transformative academic environment where every student is empowered to define their own path to success. We believe there are "More Ways to Win," and we are committed to providing the flexibility and specialized support necessary for students to meet graduation requirements while preparing for post-secondary education or meaningful career entry.
By centering our work on the Individual Learning Plan (ILP), we ensure that every student receives a personalized education that aligns with their unique goals, whether they are preparing for college-level academics, technical certification, or immediate workforce entry. Our campus serves as a vital "Safety Net," offering a supportive community where students can access quality prenatal and parenting education, health services, and intensive social-emotional support.
Program Highlights
- Individualized Pathways: Our teachers and counselors employ a holistic, responsive approach, utilizing differentiated instruction and multidisciplinary units to help students earn credits efficiently and purposefully.
- Parenting & Early Childhood Support: In partnership with Felton Institute, our on-site child care provides high-quality care for infants (ages 2 weeks–18 months) for parenting SFUSD students district-wide. We focus on fostering school readiness for children while empowering student-parents with the skills to be resilient, effective leaders. Whether students choose to utilize the on-site child care or manage care within their own support networks, we are committed to providing the parenting education and emotional resources necessary for both parent and child to thrive.
- Seamless & Guided Pathways: With a commitment to flexible enrollment and student-centered planning, we support our students as they navigate their unique educational journeys toward the attainment of a high school diploma. While we maintain a process for those who may wish to return to a comprehensive site, our primary focus is ensuring a successful transition from graduation into a student's chosen 'next chapter.' By centering our work on each student's individual goals, we ensure they are fully prepared to move directly into post-secondary education or the professional workforce, equipped with a clear plan for their future.
Our Vision
Our vision is that every student—across Hilltop, El Camino Alternativo, and Caminito—will emerge as a strong self-advocate who recognizes their inherent value and worth. We cultivate resilient, responsible individuals who act with dignity and respect, embracing opportunities to contribute to their local communities.
As a staff, we are "all in" on our core values: Creating Community, Embracing Opportunities to Learn, Teaching by Example, and Celebrating Growth. Together, we ensure that every student has the tools to succeed in the workplace, in higher education, and in life.
