About Francis Scott Key Elementary School
Established in 1903 as Oceanside Primary School and later became FS Key, our school was relocated to the art deco style building completed in 1938. It was then renovated in 2012 to make the school fully ADA compliant. The campus includes a two-story main building and a permanent bungalow with 26 classrooms, a library, a computer lab, a multipurpose auditorium or cafeteria, and administrative offices. Our schoolyard is open on weekends for community use as part of a Shared School Yard program.
Our School Mission: Francis Scott Key Elementary School community will work together to set high expectations and strive for excellence through a student centered approach by fostering a holistic, unified, diverse, collaborative and supportive learning environment. We will actively promote respect, acceptance and diversity among community members, build Healthy Minds and Bodies through learning activities and hands on experiences.
Our School Vision: Provide students a learning experience that is nurturing, compassionate, supportive and challenging. Equip students with appropriate 21st century skills, Growth Mindset and confidence by embracing creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
Our School Design Challenge: We believe in designing a learning environment that will enable teachers to develop and implement authentic inquiry based learning by optimizing existing classroom space and ensuring access for ALL students specifically ELL, SPED, and Girls as we build an integrated program focusing on S.T.E.A.M. education.
