Our School Library

Our School Library

The library at Frank McCoppin is run and curated by Tracy Heffernan. Ms. Heffernan has been a teacher librarian for 18 years in the San Francisco Unified School district, serving K-8 schools, and 2 K-5 schools for the last 13 years. She has a masters in Library Science as well as one in multicultural children’s literature. She also teaches children’s literature to early childhood educators at Skyline College as an adjunct professor.

Our collection and program have been stewarded and has been grown by Ms. Heffernan with input from the staff and community to reflect and serve our school best. She - like all SFUSD teacher librarians- is a double credentialed full-time teacher in the district. She is at McCoppin on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In non-covid tomes, the library is open in addition to regular class visits for Lunch Box Readers during both lunchtimes on the days she is on site. This year library has been via zoom but Ms. Heffernan looks forward to welcoming students back in this fall!

She says, ”Our library is a cozy, welcoming space for students to enhance their joy in books and love of learning!”

If you visit our school please drop in the library! She is always happy to see families.

(During the pandemic shut down, Ms. Heffernan is providing recorded readalouds to every classroom K-5 and zooming in live for bonus readalouds or small group student support.)
