In an effort to promote good study habits and prepare students for life after Independence High School, the Community program has a new Late Work policy. This policy will be explained during class, mentioned in each syllabus and reminded throughout the quarter.
- There will be one mid-quarter and one final deadline per quarter
- Work from weeks 1-5 due at the end of week 6, weeks 6-10 due at the end of quarter
- Work is no longer able to be turned in once the deadline passes
- Students who do not turn in work by the deadline will be ineligible for credit for that half of the quarter.
- Students with an “extended time” accommodation in their IEP or 504 plan may receive a 1-2 day extension only if they have been working with their case manager and teacher and can show they have begun work on the assignment and just need extra time to complete it.
- California Independent Study laws says, The maximum length of time allowed between the assignment and the date the assignment is due is 1 week.
We know this will be an adjustment for returning students, but we really believe this will help students avoid procrastination and the anxiety spiral of avoiding work!
