Letter from the Admin Team

Dear Ulloa Families, 

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!  We hope you all had time to rest and recharge during the summer break. The Admin Team is really looking forward to seeing all of your smiles.  Our first day of school is on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. School will start at 9:30am. Wednesdays are our early release days and students will be released at 2:30pm. Students will be dismissed at 3:45pm on the other days. 

This year we will continue to focus on deepening the sense of belonging of all our community members and increasing opportunities for student voice. The teachers will be spending two of their pre-service days engaging in hands-on learning at the Exploratorium. As a school we will be exploring ways that we can utilize inquiry to develop new authentic learning opportunities to elevate student voice. We can’t wait to see how this work will unearth more of the brilliance that our students show us everyday. 

We have some staffing updates that we would like to share with you:

• First Grade Team - Lorissa Wang is returning
• Second Grade Team - David Chang will be back this year for one semester. He will be in Room 17 while Donald Francis is on sabbatical
• Third Grade Team - Adrienne Nim is returning
• Fifth Grade Team - Juli Youm will be back this year. She will be in Room 104 while Jonathan Pong is on sabbatical 
• Daytime Custodian: Qiuyan (Jacey) Hu
• PE Teacher - Gloria Sagastume will be joining us 4 days a week
• Maker-Space/ STEM consultant (STEAMHEAD) - Carrie Leung will be collaborating with classroom teachers

• Kindergarten Orientation 10:00-11:30
• School Tour for New Families (1st-5th Grade) 1:00-2:00

We will send out the first Sharkbytes, our weekly family newsletter, on Wednesday, August 9th. It will include logistics for the new school year. Be sure to read through everything carefully. You can also check out school website: https://www.sfusd.edu/school/ulloa-elementary-school

Class assignments will be posted on ParentVUE and StudentVUE on August 15th. Class Assignments have been thoughtfully put together and we take many factors into consideration. We will not be releasing class assignments before August 15th.
