Letter regarding Updated School Planning Timeline

Greetings MLK Community,

San Francisco Unified School District has updated the timeline for planning for the next school year. Because of this change, MLK MS is now sending this survey out to families. Please respond to this survey to let MLK MS know what the priorities should be for the upcoming school year. 

Please note, the meeting schedule for planning for the next school year is as follows:

• January 15, 2026 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM School Site Summit Meeting In Person at MLK MS
• January 22, 2026 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM Principal’s Coffee Chat
• January 29, 2026 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM Online Zoom

All families are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. 

The Board of Education will be discussing staffing, which will also impact our school next year. We encourage you to attend those meetings as well, to know what the changes are for the upcoming school year. The next meeting for the Board of Education will be on December 16, 2025 at 6:30PM. El Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Francisco ha actualizado el calendario de planificación para el próximo año escolar. Debido a este cambio, la Escuela Secundaria MLK está enviando esta encuesta a las familias. Les pedimos que respondan a esta encuesta para que la Escuela Secundaria MLK sepa cuáles deben ser las prioridades para el próximo año escolar.

Tengan en cuenta que el calendario de reuniones para la planificación del próximo año escolar es el siguiente:

• 15 de enero de 2026, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM: Reunión de la comunidad escolar en persona en la Escuela Secundaria MLK

• 22 de enero de 2026, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM: Charla con el director

Todas las familias están invitadas y animadas a asistir a estas reuniones.

A School Site Council (SSC) must be established at all San Francisco Unified School District public schools. The elected members represent parents, students, community members, and school staff in school governance. The SSC is responsible for the development the Academic Plan, and overall school site budget including any categorical funds. The SSC is expected to:

• Review the SFUSD Strategic Plan: Transform Learning. Transform Lives.
• Review and analyze student data.
• Solicit community input and develop a needs assessment.
• Assist the principal in developing the BSC/SPSA and school site budget.
• Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the BSC/SPSA on an ongoing basis.
• Approve the Academic Plan and school site budget before it is submitted to the District for final review and approval.
