Welcome to Our School
We develop intelligent, conscientious citizens who are prepared for our evolving world. Our school, named after human rights activist Malcolm X, teaches students to advocate for themselves, their community and the world.
Celebrating our Heritage and History
At Malcolm X Elementary, we strive to create a community where students of all cultures and backgrounds feel at home and see themselves reflected among peers, educators, and in the material they learn. Our close-knit community has helped students who felt pushed out elsewhere discover a deep sense of belonging. We celebrate Black, Latinx and Pacific Islander cultures and history and teach our students about innovation and resilience. Our goal is to foster a community and a school culture that reflects our students’ values and honors their heritages and experiences.
We Focus on Academic Growth
Our devoted teachers hold high expectations for our students, because we believe that every student can achieve. At Malcolm X, we want to see every student grow and evolve as they develop a lifelong love of learning. Our students have demonstrated some of the strongest improvements on math scores in the entire district, scoring more than 18 percentage points higher on state mathematics indicators in 2019 than in previous years.

Malcolm X sits on top of one of San Francisco's many hills, serving it's community members right in the heart of the Bayview. The legacy of our school's namesake, Malcolm X, serves as the foundation for the ideals and vision of our school community. At Malcolm X, we help inspire students to be successful life-long learners.
We believe students need to develop a range of abilities—thinking, problem solving, creativity, listening skills, and the ability to work with others. We prepare students to advocate for themselves, their families, their school, their community, and their world. Malcolm X Academy provides a caring and safe learning environment with small class-sizes for our diverse students. Our teachers are devoted to developing our students' intellectual, social, emotional, and physical capacities. We are committed to ensuring that our students have equitable educational outcomes and to enhancing each student's creativity, self-discipline, and citizenship. Enthusiastic teachers use a variety of teaching methods, hold high expectations for students, and believe that every child can learn.
By working closely with families, creating positive adult-student mentorships, bringing in community resources, focusing on the unique needs of each student, and holding each student to high expectations, our learning community continues to thrive every day.
Our academic program focuses on increasing our student achievement with an emphasis on inspiring a passion for learning. We provide students with a high-quality education that prepares them to fully participate as citizens in the 21st century. As a community school, we collaborate with students and families. We promise to hear and include our students' and families' voices, dreams, and hopes in planning and developing our school culture and academic program.
