Announcement Message
Dear Colleagues,
As we approach tax season, I am writing to share an update and to provide more information regarding your tax statement (Form W-2) for 2022. SFUSD has been working to prepare W-2s since the end of 2022, and W-2s were distributed on Jan. 25 via mail.
Your Form W-2 is a summary of the taxable earnings received in a calendar year. Any compensation paid to you in 2022 is considered 2022 income. It does not reflect your fiscal or school year salary; it reflects taxable, calendar year wages from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2022.
We apologize for the disruption that EMPowerSF may have caused. While SFUSD reconciles issues related to both under and overpayments of our employees, please be assured that your W-2 has undergone rigorous testing and validation. The EMPowerSF Command Center has taken the following actions to mitigate possible issues related to your W-2:
- Confirmed taxes for off-cycle payments, AP checks, and 403b refunds were correct
- Conducted systems testing and test printing of W-2s
- Submitted the file to Social Security Administration and received no errors
We want to ensure that you have the information you need to navigate this tax season. We are actively pursuing additional resources to support our staff. In the meantime, here are the available resources for support you may need:
- What you need to know about the W-2
- Free financial coaching and resources provided by BALANCE
- W-2 Frequently Asked Questions
We recognize the frustration many employees have felt due to issues related to EMPowerSF and appreciate the associated questions you may have this tax season. We will be in touch shortly with more information that we hope you will find helpful.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matt Wayne
