Superintendent Dr. Wayne shared in an email this week that one of San Francisco Unified School District’s (SFUSD) top priorities is to protect the data of our staff members, students, and parents/guardians. In direct support of that priority, SFUSD is in the process of implementing Cisco Duo, a two-factor authentication (2FA) solution, for its employees.
Two-factor authentication is a proven approach that drastically reduces cybersecurity attacks and further secures your account and our organization. You are probably familiar with 2FA already. For example, when you log in to your online banking or health insurance account, it is highly likely you first must enter a PIN that is sent to you via text message. Please note that UESF Duo users will only be prompted for Duo when accessing SFUSD resources while off SFUSD’s network.
Between now and the end of the school year, SFUSD will expand Duo 2FA usage to include more staff, focusing primarily on UESF membership. Paraeducators will be the focus of 2FA adoption early next school year. Those users transitioning to Duo 2FA will receive a direct email from the DoT guiding them through the enrollment process.
Duo enrollments for UESF staff (minus paras) will be divided into groups by last name to align with support resources. Staff will have a two-week window to self enroll after receiving their informational email. Once the corresponding enrollment window has ended, staff will be required to finish enrollment before accessing SFUSD systems.

We have worked hard to limit the disruptions associated with this transition and make the Duo enrollment process as simple and straightforward as possible.
