What a fantastic year!!
From the Student Orientation in August of 2025 to the Senior Breakfast in May 2026, the PTSA and our families showed up and pulled our community together. Thank you all for donating, bringing home-baked goods, buying merch, and generally being supportive of the Bal community. We couldn't have done it without you!
THANK YOU!!
—With love from Bal PTSA

End of Year Staff Celebration Link to this section
The community brought in desserts and salads, just fantastic stuff. We also blew away expectations for the raffle, with a 2-night stay at a 4-bedroom house near Yosemite, a $100 gift certificate to Costco, See's Candy gift cards, a Keurig coffee maker, cute little potted succulents, Costco gift cards, coffee beans, chocolate, soda, wine, beer, and much more. The teachers were psyched! So much gratitude sloshing about.
Senior Clearance Day was all cleared out by the time we set up for the End of Year Staff Celebration, so it must have been a success.

Feb 24, 2026: February Family Meeting
Topic: Summer Opportunities: We heard from Gabrielle Wood from Bal's After School summer program, which frankly sounds fun and awesome (Email them at BALBOAASP@CYCSF.ORG). We heard from our "greatest hit" Tyree Johnson of MYEEP (Mayor's Youth Employment & Education Program) which once again has a whole bunch of opportunities for paying jobs for students this summer. We also heard from a new presenter for PITCH: Program for the Investigation and Training in Careers in Health, a 3-week program from UCSF (this year's deadline has passed). Summer is coming right up, so if you're interested in taking advantage of all that San Francisco has to offer this summer, seize the day! Here's the slide deck for the meeting. Once again, Tilak donated the food — sooooo good.

Dec 17: Staff Holiday Appreciation Luncheon
Thank you to everyone who donated a dish to the Staff Holiday Luncheon on Wed, Dec 17th! And many thanks also to board member Justin, parent Shelly, and the family liaisons for helping out. Bal teachers and staff felt the love! It was a heartwarming event on a cold day.

Nov 18: Bucks for Buccs Thank you to everyone who came out for our Bucks for Buccs party! It was fantastic to see such passionate support for Bal. Special thanks to Vino Rosso wine bar for hosting the event! Not to brag, but who should show up and bring everyone to tears but the legendary Mr Finger, and the amazing VP Connie So! Wow!
Funds were raised and fun was had.
Tuesday Nights Out was a fantastic success!
VinoRosso Wine Bar and Vega Pizzeria shared 20% of all orders from November and December if parties mentioned "Balboa". We made slightly more than $1000 on this partnership! Thank you, Bal parent Vega!!
VinoRosso and Vega Pizzeria are family businesses owned by Bal parents!

PTSA Calendar — Information Link to this section
There are two kinds of PTSA meetings: Family Meetings and Board Meetings.
All Family Meetings are at 6:00 PM in the Buccaneer Room.
Family Meetings for the Balboa Community Link to this section
All Family Meetings are open to the Balboa community—students, parents, and staff— and are held at 6:00pm in the Buccaneer Room at Balboa High School roughly every month during the school year. They cover a variety of topics, and a light dinner is served. Our student attendees get community hours! (Each year, Bal students are required to do 25 hours of community service.)
Board Meetings Link to this section
Monthly PTSA board meetings are held online to discuss plans and funding requests.
If you'd like to join our board meetings to see what is going on with Bal, we'd love to have you. Email us for a link to the zoom meeting (or about anything else).
Why is it the "PTSA" instead of the "PTA"? Link to this section
There are two options to name a local chapter of this national organization. PTA stands for Parent-Teacher Association, while according to Bal PTSA lore, PTSA stands for Parent-Teacher-Student-Administrators (association). It matches with our commitment to be inclusive of everyone, including our students and administrators. One love!
