Dear Argonne Families,

I am writing to share an update on summer programming at Argonne Elementary.

Currently due to districtwide financial constraints, state requirements tied to summer funding and labor agreements, SFUSD needs to rethink the way summer programming is offered at Argonne Elementary.  SFUSD remains deeply committed to ensuring Argonne students have access to meaningful, inclusive summer learning opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who offered their insights and experience with the past summer offerings.  Staff did a deep dive and has been able to offer three options to continue summer programs at Argonne Elementary.  All three options align with the SFUSD summer calendar and include Extended School Year (ESY) services at Argonne so that all students are supported.

Summer Program Options For the Argonne Staff and Community to Consider:

Option 1: ELO-P Funded Summer Program
This option would use Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) funding and be operated in partnership with the Richmond District Neighborhood Center. The program would run for 30 days, 9 hours per day, with staff hired through the partner organization. Families who do not qualify for ELO-P would have access to a sliding-scale option.

Option 2: School-Funded Summer Program
Under this option, Argonne and the School Site Council would allocate discretionary funds to support a summer program, with teachers paid for extended summer hours. The program would follow the SFUSD summer ESY schedule.

Option 3: Literacy-Focused Summer Program
This option would provide a literacy-intensive summer program at Argonne using one-time district funds. Teachers would apply and be hired for summer positions, and the program would follow the SFUSD ESY summer schedule.

As a next step, we are seeking input from both teachers and families on which option feels most viable for our Argonne community. Please take a few moments to share your feedback using the linked Google feedback form by January 9, 2026.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for your shared commitment to supporting Argonne students.  Principal Abdallah will communicate next steps for the community.  Additionally she will work with LEAD, UBC, SSC and PTSA.
