Dear Lafayette Families,

Here we go!  The first day of school is upon us.  I’m sure there will be difficulties in sleeping tonight for many children anticipating the excitement of our first days of school.  We are ready to welcome you all and those anxious feelings will quickly disappear as we reconnect with old friends, and new friends are found.

Please look for your child’s teacher when you arrive through the gates on 36th Ave.  They will be holding signs to identify themselves.  If you did not find your child’s teacher on ParentVUE, there will be class lists posted in the yard.  The yard will be open at 7:30, with our first morning announcements of the year beginning at 7:50.

Any one that comes onto campus must be wearing a mask.  After the morning announcements, we ask you to leave the yard quickly.  You can pick your children up in the same place you dropped them off in the morning.  If they are attending an afterschool program, they will go directly to their respective program at 2:00 for kindergarteners and 2:05 for all other students. Otherwise, those are the times you will pick up your children.

PTA will be starting the Stop, Drop and Go student drop off program on Tuesday, August 17.  This takes place on Anza Street.  Simply approach the school anywhere west of 37th Ave on Anza and get in the quick moving line of cars, and volunteers will assist your child out of their car and send them through the building to the yard.  This is a wonderful program that eliminates the need to park.   Once again, the program begins at 7:30 AM on Tuesday, August 17, NOT TOMORROW.  Here is a link to sign up as a volunteer for the program.

I wanted to share a Daily Health Screening Resource that the district has prepared.  We will NOT be screening you or your children.  This makes it extremely important for you to screen your children and keep them home if there are any signs of illness.  We will send children home if they are displaying symptoms.  The link I shared also contains a lot of other useful information including the procedures we follow if someone is sick at school.  Please explore this resource.

We have been getting questions from parents around distance learning for those children that are medically fragile or are concerned about their child returning to in-person learning.  This has come up a lot district wide, and I wanted to share the link for you to utilize if you think this option is more suitable for you.  It is a district program and not affiliated with Lafayette.  The district shared this: SFUSD is reopening the application. The application period will open on Friday, August 13, and close on Friday, August 27. Please direct inquiring families to the website https://www.sfusd.edu/onlinelearningprogram to learn about online learning options.  Once again, I have no further information and you should visit the attached link if you are interested or have questions.

This year, school meals will be free to all students.  This includes breakfast and lunch.  Students can continue to bring their own snacks and lunches, but remember, when packing snacks and lunch for your children, we are a nut free school. Leave all items that contain or are processed with nuts at home.

The school looks great inside and out.  That said, we do have a large debris box on the yard nearest 36th Ave.  Please make sure to guide your children around it when bringing them on to campus.  There is also some furniture on the yard that we are having relocated to other places.  That area will be marked off with yellow tape.

We are excited to see you all tomorrow.  Teachers and staff have been working tirelessly to make our learning spaces unique and welcoming. We have supplies for your children so that everyone is prepared to learn and we look forward to kicking off what we hope will be an amazing year.  During the morning announcements tomorrow, we will be saying our pledge of respect before heading into our classrooms.  Here is the pledge so that everyone can follow along.

Until then...

Dolphins are Safe.  Dolphins are Respectful. Dolphins are Responsible.

Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Lafayette Admin Team
