Marina Middle School Penguins!

Marina Middle School is a supportive, challenging, and empowering learning community where every student is loved, challenged, and equipped to grow as a compassionate global leader. Since 1936, Marina has stayed grounded in our Penguin Principles—the values that guide how we learn, lead, and care for one another.

Students engage in rigorous academics, joyful enrichment, and a variety of electives including band, orchestra, art, drama, computer science, journalism, AVID, and Mandarin. Our educators are dedicated to thoughtful instruction and continuous professional growth.

Marina offers a vibrant athletics program with basketball, volleyball, track & field, soccer, softball, and baseball, as well as club sports like archery, wrestling, judo, futsal, and Penguins on the Move.

As a Beacon Community School, made possible through our lead agency, the Presidio YMCA of San Francisco, Marina benefits from student-centered partnerships. Beacon staff collaborate with educators to provide academic and behavioral support, lead lunch clubs, plan events, and run a robust after-school program that expands learning through tutoring, outdoor experiences, music, arts, and cultural activities.

At Marina, every child experiences the magic and joy of learning.

School Data

School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) are required by state law and are intended to provide families with important information.

School Accountability Highlights

Published annually by SFUSD to provide access to key data points and three-year trends related to student achievement and school culture-climate. The highlights are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Filipino, and Vietnamese.

Social-Emotional and Culture Climate Report

SFUSD annually surveys families and school staff on a range of school climate indicators that have been found to predict positive student academic achievement. The social-emotional learning of students in grades 4-12 is also assessed.

School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)

School communities gather twice a year to review data and previous actions in order to intentionally plan for the coming months. The School Plan for Student Achievement is the template on which this review and stakeholder engagement process is codified.
