Thank you to Superintendent Matthews for recognizing the hard work the staff and students put in every day to create this special learning environment.
Posted from the SFUSD School Site Summit, highlights presentation from SFUSD School Superintendent Matthews.

Principal Coffee in the Library
"Principal Daws has created a very supportive school environment. Her door is always open to students and families. We feel lucky to have her at the helm of Marina. The school continues to get better and better each year." - parent of a 7th grader
To catch up on Principal Daws' regular updates:

PTSA Meeting: High School Night
"If I could go back in time, what would I tell my 6th grade self? Don't worry so much. Yes, the school is much larger than where you went to elementary school but you will make many new friends, have really interesting teachers, laugh a lot and realize that you can do more than you think you can! You've got this." - recent graduate, Marina Middle School.
The Annual High School Night hosted by the PTSA is one of many family engagement events we hold each year.

Marina is recognized as a Common Sense Media School
Marina Librarian Donna Campbell works hard to share the Common Sense Media curriculum with students, focusing on on-line safety, digital foot prints, using true research tools and validated websites. Students regularly visit the library during Language Arts and use her dedicated set of touch-screen Chromebooks to practice what is being taught.

Our teachers aren't that scary
A typical day at Marina? ( Or maybe Halloween.) Either way our teachers always bring good spirits and a bit of spooky fun to their classrooms. At Marina teachers are subject matter specific with a deep passion for bringing out the best in students. It is a bit tricky...but they are a real treat.

Team Sports
"Participating on the volleyball team really helped me find new friends and feel more confident. I worked hard and discovered a new talent. I hope to play volleyball in high school." 7th Grade Marina student

About Marina Middle School
Marina Middle School is a supportive, challenging and empowering learning community. Starting in 1936, the school continues to grow and flourish through each iteration.
We are building a community of students in whom we value integrity, nurture creativity, place respect for each other as a priority, foster curiosity, promote responsibility and leadership, appreciate cultural differences and feel safe to be who we are on the inside.
Our challenge and our strength is to maintain a sense of community at all times while we build capacity in our students, in each other and in our programs. We are dedicated to academic success through rigorous and thoughtful instruction, providing resources for teacher development and building on needs.
We have 850 students taking Math, English, Science, Social Studies, PE, Advisory and one of the following options: band, orchestra, art, drama, computer science coding, journalism, AVID, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, or Spanish. In addition, we are partnered with the Beacon after-school program and a number of other community based organizations who provide opportunities for our students that range from hiking, camping and sailing, music and dance events to clubs that meet at lunch.
We are passionate about supporting the individual educational journeys of all our students as we look toward the future, guided by the comprehensive strategic plan of the San Francisco Unified School District’s (SFUSD) Vision 2025. We want every child to be part of the magic of learning at Marina Middle School. Marina Middle School is an incredible place!!
