Community Meeting: Parent Advisory Council

MLK MS invites all families to attend MLK’s Parent Advisory Council on Thursday 10/15/2026 at 5:30PM at MLK MS. All families are part of the Parent Advisory Council! Bring a dish for our shared meal. We will meet together first, then break off into subcommittees:

• Parent Advisory Council (English)

• African American Parent Advisory Council (English)

• Association of Latin American Parents (Spanish)

• Chinese Affinity Group (Cantonese)

We will be discussing academic achievement, community issues, the structure of our School Site Council, and how decisions are made that affect the whole school. Join Us!

School Site Council Meeting Summary

The School Site Council approved the reorganization. The proposal established the following subcommittees under the School Site Council: 

• African American Parent Advisory Council
• Association of Latin American Parents
• Chinese Affinity Group

Each Subcommittee shall nominate one representative to serve on the School Site Council (SSC), for a total of three designated seats. A fourth seat shall be open to any family or community member for nomination.

Grading Period Ending

The first grading period ends 10/09/2026. If your child is missing work, remind them to check with their teachers to see if they need to turn in any work. 

6th Grade 1st Period Elective Wheel

6th Grade Families, please note, your child’s 1st period elective class will be rotating to a new elective. The start date of the new elective will be Monday, 10/19. You can also check ParentVUE/StudentVUE on Sunday night to see what the new elective is. If you have any questions, please let us know by replying to this email. Thank you.

FILL OUT THE Multipurpose Family Income Form 

We are at 70% 80% 83% 84% ! We need to reach 90+% for continued funding. All meals are free this school year but your Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF) form is still requested to support school funding! HELP MLK lunch funding by filling out the form! This form assist with informing the district and the state of California the needs of MLK MS. This form assisted with MLK MS receiving the Community School Grant, adding $250,000 per year, as well as Title 1 Funding at $108,000 per year. In the past few years, students qualifying for free or reduced lunch during the school year also got $120 for summer EBT. 

District 10 Safety Plan Violence Prevention Peace Rally 

The 5th Annual District 10 Safety Plan Violence Prevention Peace Rally is a free, family-friendly community event bringing youth, families, community partners, and local resources together to promote peace, safety, and violence prevention. Join us Saturday, October 10, from 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at the Southeast Community Center, 1550 Evans Avenue in San Francisco, for youth activities, community resources, youth vendors, live performances, music, raffles, food, and more. Students who attend can also receive community service hours.

The Southeast Community Center Presents: The 14th Annual District 10 Health Fest: Bayview in Motion! Saturday, October 17, 11AM - 4PM.

This dynamic, community-centered wellness celebration merges movement, prevention, sustainability and neighborhood pride into one exciting festival at the SECC featuring health screenings and education, entertainment and food trucks.

This year's theme, Bayview in Motion, celebrates movement, wellness, and community for a day of health, healing, and collective joy in San Francisco’s District 10. This annual event will highlight the importance of holistic well-being through fun activities, community resources, and opportunities for residents of all ages to engage in healthy living.

School Reorganization: Fall 2026 Family Input Survey

San Francisco Unified School District is changing how students are assigned to elementary schools. The new system would start in August 2028. 

No boundaries have been drawn, and no school is being closed because of this survey. The Board has not yet chosen a plan. Staff will report what families say publicly in October to help the Board give direction.

Input will be reviewed weekly and synthesized for sharing with district leadership and the Board. Answers sent to the district may be public records under California law. We are thrilled to announce that our grocery store​, MLK Community Market, will be opening soon to serve our school community.​ This resource is exclusively for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Academic Middle School families and registration is required. This is intended to be a supplementary food source to complement your current groceries, not to serve as a primary food bank or pantry.

To ensure that we can fulfill our mission and serve those with the greatest need, we are asking families to complete this form.​ We currently have limited funding and space, which allows us to provide a set number of grocery trips each month. We respectfully ask that you only submit this form if this resource would be a necessary support for your family at this time. If your family's situation changes and you no longer need our services, please let us know so we can make that space available for another family.​

2026年秋季學期家庭意見調查

Resumen de la reunión del Consejo Escolar

El Consejo Escolar aprobó la reorganización. La propuesta estableció los siguientes subcomités dentro del Consejo Escolar:

Finalización del período de calificaciones

COMPLETE el Formulario de Ingreso Familiar Multipropósito

¡Estamos al 70% 80% 83% 84%! Necesitamos alcanzar más del 90% para seguir recibiendo financiación. Concentración por la Paz y la Prevención de la Violencia del Plan de Seguridad del Distrito 10

La 5.ª Concentración Anual por la Paz y la Prevención de la Violencia del Plan de Seguridad del Distrito 10 es un evento comunitario gratuito y familiar que reúne a jóvenes, familias, socios comunitarios y recursos locales para promover la paz, la seguridad y la prevención de la violencia. Acompáñanos el sábado 10 de octubre, de 11:00 a. m. a 3:00 p. m., en el Centro Comunitario del Sureste, ubicado en 1550 Evans Avenue, San Francisco. Disfruta de actividades para jóvenes, recursos comunitarios, puestos de venta para jóvenes, presentaciones en vivo, música, rifas, comida y mucho más. Los estudiantes que asistan también podrán obtener horas de servicio comunitario.

El Centro Comunitario del Sureste presenta: ¡El 14.º Festival Anual de Salud del Distrito 10: Bayview en Movimiento! Sábado 17 de octubre, de 11AM - 4PM.

Esta dinámica celebración de bienestar, centrada en la comunidad, fusiona el movimiento, la prevención, la sostenibilidad y el orgullo vecinal en un emocionante festival en el SECC, con exámenes de salud, educación, entretenimiento y puestos de comida.

El tema de este año, Bayview en Movimiento, celebra el movimiento, el bienestar y la comunidad en un día de salud, sanación y alegría colectiva en el Distrito 10 de San Francisco. Reorganización escolar: Encuesta de opinión a las familias para el otoño de 2026

El Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Francisco está cambiando la forma en que se asigna a los alumnos a las escuelas de primaria. El nuevo sistema entraría en vigor en agosto de 2028. 

No se han establecido límites ni se va a cerrar ninguna escuela a raíz de esta encuesta. La Junta aún no ha elegido ningún plan. El personal informará públicamente en octubre sobre las opiniones de las familias para ayudar a la Junta a tomar una decisión.
