Importance and Clarity of Student Attendance:
We wanted to give everyone some clarity on our attendance policy that is based in SFUSD board policy that we must follow. Please reach out with any questions. Here is more information on the SFUSD website about Attendance that is also in the Student Attendance and Academic Expectations chapter.
National and local research has shown that students with frequent absences, whether excused or unexcused, have lower literacy levels, lower grades and higher drop-out rates than students who attend school regularly. SFUSD believes that regular attendance plays an important role in student achievement. Roosevelt will work with parents/guardians and students to ensure their compliance with all state attendance laws and may use supportive measures to correct problems of chronic absence or truancy. Absence in excess of 10% or more days of school, whether those absences are excused or unexcused, will be considered Chronic Absence. Parents will receive official notification of excessive excused absences. (SFUSD Board Policy 5113)
If you have any questions about what absences are excused and what are not excused, please review this Link. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Arwa (Counseling/ Attendance Secretary) or your grade level counselor.
