Wellness Services

FALL 2020 VIRTUAL SERVICES
  • Social emotional supports: Wellness check-ins (by phone or Zoom), referral assessments, individual counseling, support & empowerment groups

  • Case management support: Collaboration with community based providers and resource information for food access and other resources

  • Health services: Health assessments and referral, health advice and consultation, health insurance information and help with applications, COVID-19 concerns, vision/hearing referrals, sexual health referrals, TB screening

  • Referrals: Jobs and internships, legal services, immigration services, counseling support, substance intervention, violence prevention

  • Crisis assessment and referrals: Safety and suicide assessments, assistance with reports to Child Crisis and Child Protective Services

  • Collaboration: Work closely with counseling staff and admin, participate in interdisciplinary teams to support students attendance and well being, teacher consultation and community partnerships.

  • Community Partnerships: We have strong relationships with organizations such as the Department of Public Health, the Samoan Community Development Center, Mission Girls, Horizons Unlimited, CARECEN, New Generation Health Center, Huckleberry Youth Programs, Mo Magic and other agencies who provide extra support to our students.

Jodi Tsapis, Wellness Coordinator

Jodi is Downtown High School's Wellness Coordinator and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. As the Wellness Coordinator/School Social Worker, Jodi is in charge of implementing, coordinating and supervising the Wellness team that manages a majority of the mental health services at the school. Jodi earned her Masters degree from Cal State East Bay School of Social Work.

My role as a CHOW is to connect the students and school to community based organizations, opportunities and resources. I was born in the Philippines and raised in New Jersey and the Bay Area. I am an avid fan of Hiphop, art, and nerdy things.

Em Kane is a RAMS (Richmond Area Multi-Services) Behavioral Health Counselor at the Downtown Wellness Center. She earned her Master’s of Social Welfare from UC Berkeley with a concentration on Children and Families. Em provides free, confidential individual and group counseling to students at Downtown High School.

My name is Idil Arpaci, and I am the school nurse at Downtown High School. I graduated from the University of San Francisco in May 2015 with my BSN. Since then, I have accrued substantial experience as a Registered Nurse in several institutions; I was an ICU nurse and home health nurse in adult care. I have been a school nurse for 4.5 years.
