Announcement Message

Dear Lafayette Families,

We hope you had a great week.

I am very excited to announce that we will have a new Assistant Principal beginning Monday.  Her name is Sarah Seaton and she is coming to us from Millbrae School District where she served as an assistant principal.  Please read the following from Ms. Seaton:

Greetings Lafayette Community!

My name is Sarah Seaton and I am filled with excitement to be appointed as the Interim AP at Lafayette Elementary School. I come to you with 12 years of experience as a school educator - 6 years as a classroom teacher, teaching grades 3, 4, a 2/3 combo, and a self-contained 8th grade class; and 6 years in administration, ranging from Curriculum Coach to Assistant Principal.

My core beliefs are grounded in my personal background, experiences, and identities - racial, socioeconomic, and gender - which have contributed to and enabled me to become a leader who will ensure that each and every student has what they need to be successful. I am an advocate for the needs of my students & families, and I see each and every student as deserving of a quality education, no matter their background, experiences, or identity markers. I believe that we as educators are responsible for providing all our students with the support they need to thrive and grow in a loving and caring environment.

I greatly look forward to meeting and working alongside our students, staff, and school community.

In partnership,

Sarah Seaton

Ms. Seaton will spend a lot of time getting to know Lafayette and hopefully many of you, over the next few weeks.  Please join me in welcoming her to our community

We are celebrating Lantinx Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, 2021. We will be utilizing a variety of resources in order to better recognize the contributions and achievements of Latinx champions who have inspired others to achieve success.

Starting Monday, we are beginning a mask challenge. The objective of this challenge is to encourage our children to wear their masks correctly at all times.  Please follow the Mask Challenge Link here to find out more and also please discuss proper mask etiquette with your children.

Please continue to utilize the Stop, Drop and Go student drop off program.  You can also volunteer to help our students when it is your child’s classes’ turn.

There continues to be many problems during student pick up, including parking in bus zones, blocking neighbors driveways, double parking and other dangerous behavior.  Please do not do any of the above mentioned.  We need to model the behaviors we want to see in our young people.

Please continue to screen your children before bringing them to school each day.  Do not send children to school with any symptoms including runny nose, congestion, or cough.  We will ask that children get picked up if we see them exhibiting these symptoms.

We continue to have a considerable collection of clothing and water bottles in our lost and found.  If your child returns from school without an item of clothing, please check for it in our lost and found at the base of the flagpole on the playground.

Each week I will be attaching a PTA communication letter.  Please read their communications for further updates, announcements and opportunities.

PTA Announcements

While many of you may not have had direct experience with Lafayette’s former principal, Heath Caceres, he has had a lasting impact on our school community.  He spent many years in SFUSD as a teacher before coming to Lafayette to teach third grade and then serve as the principal.  One of his many lasting contributions to Lafayette was his input to the redesign of our school and playground.  He put countless hours into meetings with a variety of teams to come up with what we are enjoying today.  It is with this in mind that we will be honoring Heath with a dedication on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM on the Lafayette Playground.  We want it to be a celebration that allows those of us who knew him to reconnect and share stories.  Speakers will begin at 12:00.  We will be practicing COVID-19 safety protocols and masks are required at all times. Please pass this invitation along to anyone that knew Mr. Caceres.

We hope you have a great week.

Sincerely,

Lafayette Admin Team
