Flynn Parent Teacher Association

The Flynn Elementary PTA is a welcoming community of caregivers, educators, and staff working together to support our students, build connections, and strengthen our public school where the Mission meets Bernal Heights. Our PTA focuses on building relationships. We partner closely with school leadership to align our efforts with what students, teachers, and families truly need. Every PTA meeting includes live interpretation in English and Spanish so that all voices can be heard and included.

The Flynn PTA meets once a month on the second Wednesday, usually in the evening. Meetings are open to all and always include live interpretation in English and Spanish. Whether you want to listen in, ask a question, or share an idea, your voice is welcome.

Joining the PTA is one of the easiest ways to stay connected to what’s happening at Flynn. It gives you insight into how our school works and offers a way to contribute, no matter your schedule. Whether you attend meetings or just want to stay in the loop, your membership helps strengthen our school community and shows our kids what it means to show up for each other.

All Flynn caregivers, staff, and community members are welcome. The suggested fee is $7 per year, but no one is ever turned away. You can join online or by filling out a paper form in the school office. PTA members vote on decisions, receive regular updates, and help shape our priorities.

There are so many ways to be part of the Flynn community. Some families lead events or committees, others help with small tasks or help out in the classroom or on field trips when they can. Many just stay connected and engaged. It all matters.

On WhatsApp, you will find:

• Grade-level threads where families share reminders, coordinate playdates, and cheer each other on
• Special interest groups for things like camping trips and soccer teams
• A community space for offering or requesting help when someone needs an extra hand
• A space for families navigating IEPs and special education to share knowledge and support

Each year, the PTA raises around $100,000 to support programs and needs across our school. That includes:

• Classroom supplies and annual teacher stipends
• Science enrichment through Mission Science Workshop
• Arts, music, and movement programming
• Playworks, our full-time recess and activity coach
• Technology upgrades based on teacher needs, including short-throw projectors and classroom devices
• Healthy snacks during state testing
• Community events like Movie Nights, First Fridays, and the Book Fair
• Viva La Noche, our annual community auction and fundraiser
• Bike Fest, a high-energy spring event focused on biking and wellness
• 5th grade graduation and student celebrations
• Family support programs like Flynnda’s Closet and the Holiday Wish Drive
• Garden care, teacher appreciation, and campus beautification

We’re always looking for new leaders and helpers. If something here sounds like a good fit, or you want to co-lead with a friend, let us know:

• Hospitality Coordinator: Help with snacks, drinks, and welcoming touches for events and meetings
• Sunshine Coordinator: Help celebrate and care for families and staff with notes or small gestures
• Athletics Lead: Support team logistics, coordinate equipment, and collaborate with volunteer coaches
• School Site Council Liaison: Attend SSC meetings and bring back updates to the PTA (this is an elected position)
• Flynnda’s Closet Coordinator: Help keep our school’s free thrift store organized and accessible for families. Coordinate donation drop-offs, maintain inventory, and support a welcoming space where families can find what they need.
