Dear Aptos Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 new school year at Aptos School of Performing Arts (newly rebranded).

Aptos Vision:  A premier performing arts community middle school experience that prepares Aptos Scholars to master academic standards, demonstrate 21st century skills and develop a unique perspective to navigate high school and ultimately the world with a sense of purpose, while upholding the Tiger Values. The Aptos experience includes a myriad of electives to include Algebra (8th grade only), Block Schedule (67 minutes and 86 minutes classes), clubs on the 2nd/4th Wednesday during advisory.

6th Grader Scholars:

Scholars will be exposed to various electives during the school year.  This gives them opportunities to learn different skills and determine what electives they will select in 7th grade.  .

The official start of school is Monday, August 17, 2026 @ 9:00 am. All students will enter through the front doors of the school on Aptos Ave. Parents will be welcomed by the PTSA representatives in the front of the school from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Parents please leave your student at the entrance, no parents will be allowed to enter the building.  .

Aptos strives to create an environment where each and every student and family member knows they are welcomed, needed, and valued. There are multiple ways to be involved and connect; Committees - English Language Advisory Council, African American Parent Advisory Council, School Site Council, volunteering, attendance at family and school events, donations, fundraisers etc… find a way to connect that works best for you. View the Aptos website for the monthly Tigers Tales Newsletter and to be  informed on the great things that will be happening.

*Very Important - sign up for ParentVue and share the best and most up-to-date contact information possible for you so that we can share information with you.”  Please review the information packet.

We are confident that in partnership with our families, your scholar will develop their sense of purpose and                                                    growth in their ability as creative learners. On behalf of the Aptos community, welcome to our new Aptos Tigers!

In Service,

Starting in the 2026-27 school year SFUSD schools will be able to receive FULL DAY absence notifications from your ParentVUE app or on the ParentVUE website (click here to learn more or watch video on instructions).

For PARTIAL Day absences, please call our attendance office (415) 469-4520.  In case we cannot answer your call please leave a message including the name of the student (first and last name) date and reason for absence, you can also send us an email with the information listed above to Ms. Karen  arias-hernandezk@sfusd.edu

State law requires the school to call the parent/guardian when students are not in school. For details on absences, please visit the district website here

TARDY:

Classes start at 9:30 a.m, students are expected to be in their classrooms!  Students arriving after 9:40 am will be marked tardy (other than late bus).   Late students need a tardy pass from the main office to be admitted to class.

PERMIT TO LEAVE:

If a student needs to leave early for a medical/dental appointment, parents/guardians need to call ahead of time the day of the appointment, send us an email or bring/send a note at the beginning of the day 9:00 - 9:30 am (texts or calls to students will not be accepted).

A “permit to leave” will be issued to the student in order to leave the school.  Students must report to the attendance office when returning to school from an appointment.

Please make sure you update the emergency card on ParentVue, only authorized names listed on the emergency card are allowed to pick up students.

ILLNESS:

If a student is not feeling well, they should report to the school nurse and she will determine if the student needs to be picked up by a parent/guardian.  Parents/guardians will receive a call from the school nurse.

TRUANT:

Truancy letters are issued after the 3rd (Letter 1), 6th (Letter 2), and 10th(Letter 3) unexcused absences or tardiness over 30 mins. One absence is defined as being tardy for over 30 min (T30) or being absent for one or more periods in a school day.  Truancy letters will automatically be attached to the ParentVue account on the 2nd Friday of each month.
