About SF YouthWorks

San Francisco YouthWorks is a unique high school internship program that teaches young people crucial job skills while sparking their interest in public service careers. Within our program, 11th and 12th-grade students work in paid internships with San Francisco city employees.

Internships for youth
San Francisco YouthWorks provides an enriching employment experience for high school students throughout San Francisco. Since 1997, SF YouthWorks has placed more than 7,500 youth in paid internships within San Francisco city government.

In a supportive environment
Each intern works closely with a mentor who is a city employee, gaining essential job skills and learning about public service careers. SF YouthWorks staff members oversee every internship to ensure a successful experience for both interns and mentors.

Where interns gain job skills and explore careers in public service
In addition, SF YouthWorks provides workshops and activities that teach interns job readiness and help them explore opportunities for public service careers. Participants have the option to intern in more than 30 city departments, such as the Department of Public Health, the District Attorney’s office and the Board of Supervisors.
