O’Connell offers an innovative instructional model to prepare all students for college and the professional world. Students participate in rigorous project-based learning, build enduring relationships, and develop 21st century skills. At O'Connell, we believe every student should be able to make choices about his or her future, and define (rather than wait for) opportunities. Our students are prepared to enter post-secondary options of four-year universities, community colleges, or livable wage careers.
11th and 12th graders select a career-themed lab: Entrepreneurship & Culinary Arts (ECA), Health & Behavioral Sciences (HBS), Construction & Building Trades (BCT), or Public Service (PS). Teams of teachers integrate college-preparatory academics with career-themed coursework, and facilitate advanced research and internships at top companies within each career area.
Everyone feels welcome within the O’Connell community. We encourage our students and families to hold us accountable for providing the best educational opportunities possible in San Francisco. Students are excited to come to school and participate in classes because they see the link between school and their futures. Students and teachers feel safe to take risks in their learning and try new things.
O'Connell offers a full range of Community School services to support students and families. We have a dedicated college and career team available to support students daily. Our Wellness Center includes a full-time nurse and therapist team. After school programming is offered until 6:00 pm daily, including tutoring and homework help, student-led clubs, athletics, enrichment courses and more! Picture Day - September 1st
All students will have their school photo taken for the 2026–27 school year. Photos will also be used for student IDs and school records. Please come to school picture-ready! Additional information about photo packages and ordering will be shared with families.
Student Club Rush & Food Fair - September 11th
Students are invited to check out the atrium during our extended lunch to explore everything happening at O’Connell!
- Discover student clubs and learn how to get involved.
- Have an idea for a new club? Share your interest and learn how to start one!
- Meet some of our community partners and learn about programs, resources, and opportunities available to students.
- Support O’Connell clubs and sports teams by purchasing food and snacks from their fundraising tables.
Please note: There will be NO off-campus lunch on this day. All students will remain on campus so everyone can participate in Club Rush & the Food Fair.
