Dr. Christie Herrera began her career as a Special Education Teacher at Spectrum Center. She went on to serve in the Mount Diablo and Oakland Unified School Districts, where she held a series of increasingly impactful roles—from Special Education Coordinator to Principal, and ultimately Director and Executive Director of Early Childhood. In these capacities, she led initiatives to expand access, improve instructional quality, and strengthen inclusive practices across preschool and transitional kindergarten programs.
Currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Early Education and Elementary Schools in San Francisco Unified School District, Christie supports the PreK-5 LEAD team, school leaders, central office teams, and community partners to ensure coherence and quality across all PreK–5 programs. She is committed to supporting and aligning curriculum, enrollment, staffing, and professional learning while fostering collaboration across departments and city agencies. Christie is a dedicated advocate for early learning as a foundation for lifelong success and is committed to building inclusive, high-quality educational environments that honor the diverse strengths of every young learner.
Christie holds a B.A. in Special Education from Gonzaga University with an Education Specialist Instruction Credential (MMSN and ESN) and an Administrative Services Credential. She received her M.A. in Educational Leadership and her doctorate in Education Leadership from Mills College.
